At a price of 5000 euros (6800 dollars) per kilogram, the honey “Elvis” from Turkey is the most expensive of its kind in the world, writes Oddity Central.
This special honey is produced in a 1800-meter cave near the town of Artvin in the Sarikair Valley, located in northeastern Turkey.
Elvis is so expensive because it is produced in the most natural way possible. The rich in minerals cave enriches extra honey. Years ago the locals noticed that the cave had bees, which led them to think that there might be honey inside. With the help of professional climbers, they go downstairs and discover 18 kilograms of honey, located on the spherical walls of the cave.
Honey is immediately sent for analysis in a French laboratory that shows it is 7 years old and is extremely rich in minerals. The first kilogram of honey was auctioned in France for 45,000 euros. A year later, Chinese pharmacists buy another pound for 28,000 euros. Currently the price per kilogram is 5000 Euros and the honey is sold in 170 and 250 grams cuts. Its high quality makes it particularly suited for medical applications.
